I’m not really a DIY kinda guy, I’ve always been more of a techy type so I hope this Paint Zoom Review will be useful to you and help you make an informed decision.  Anyways, my girlfriend (now Fiance) and I decided to paint one of the walls in our living room a nice sea-foam green. I suggested we just hit up home depot and grab some paint and brushes, I’d seen the Paint Zoom Sprayer on TV before, and I’d read a few Paint Zoom Reviews before and thought it MIGHT be worth a shot, but it seemed too good to be true at $99, so I passed initially.

The Paint Zoom Review that almost didn’t happen

This paint zoom review almost never happened, I was firmly against buying a sprayer because a lot of the paint zoom reviews online were mixed and it seemed hard to find a REAL one from a person who actually used it and is not just trying to sell it to me.  Some said it didn’t cover enough, some said it covered too much; some said it clogged, while others said it left globs on the walls. To me, spending $99 on a sprayer didn’t make sense…that’s practically two gallons of paint! However, my fiance was adamant that it would make our lives easier and SHE decided to make the purchase against my initial wishes!

Once she got the paint consistency down (add a little bit of water to get it to go on smooth) it was easy. I came home from work and in a few hours the bathroom was done and I was back to un-packing (we just moved in).  To be honest, I’m sad that she did not buy TWO of them so we could paint our new house in record time!

Her main paint zoom complaints were that it’s quite loud and there is a lot of “mist” in the air after you’re done. Also, the unit does get hot and her hand got tired after painting for awhile–but she DID say that it would’ve hurt much worse if she had been using a roller for God knows how long!

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first – and had it been MY decision alone, we would have just painted with a brush and/or roller.  There are so many fake paint zoom reviews online, everybody is just raving about it, but I wonder how many of them actually used it like I did?

My only advice, and this is important -  make sure you add water to the paint to thin it out. One cup per gallon; and be sure to clean it right after you use it so there are no clogs.  Having said that, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that has a lot of painting to do!  That about sums it up for my paint zoom review.  Honestly, if my fiance was able to paint the bathroom while I was at work I’m confident anybody can!  Just make sure you add water to the paint can as I stated above and you’ll be good to go!

My Initial complaints with the paint zoom sprayer were that that: it was painting too thin, and the end result was not too pretty to look at.  Let me explain; initially I was painting a bit too fast on my first few passes.  This resulted in a lack of optimal coverage.   Since the paint zoom is very light, obviously I was doing the job too fast. With the proper method (which is to go a bit slower and pace yourself, not too slow or too fast), you can get the superior results in due time.  Basically, I slowed down and paced myself and this issue was quickly remedied.   Funny, had I read the owners manual before using it and watched the videos – I would have been able to avoid this issue completely.  ’

Another of the paint zoom complaints, which is exactly the opposite of the previous one, is that the finish looks too thick. Again, it stems from improper use of the tool. The solution here is to distance the paint zoom gun 8 to 12 inches from the wall or the surface that you want to get painted. If you hold it too far, the result that you will get is a thin layer, but spraying it too close will result in accumulation of the paint in one area and dripping of the paint which does not really look good.  I did NOT experience this issue myself, however I spoke to a person online who did.  He was also, able to resolve this issue by holding the paint zoom sprayer a bit further back (turns out he was holding it about 4 inches from the wall he was painting).

Here’s how I was able to get around paint zoom complaints and get a more than satisfactory paint job

Aside from the results that are not of superior quality, the paint zoom complaints were properly addressed with a few painting techniques. With proper use, you will see PERFECT results, as there are no issues with the mechanics of the paint zoom gun or motor.  In all honesty, I think most paint zoom complaints, including my initial ones, are simply a result of user error or a lack of understanding of the proper use of the Paint Zoom device.  If you read the owners manual and watch the videos and apply what you learn, you will not have any paint zoom complaints of your own.

The Most Common Paint Zoom Problems Users Find

• It is a common thing that consumers find fault in every product especially the new ones when they are used to the old methods. This unit is designed to be light in weight so that when you are doing the painting job, you will not be holding a lot of weight in your hand which will only make the task at hand more difficult. The amount of paint the unit carries is designed in such a way that it will not tire your hands. Other users I spoke to that have used it prefer it to be light and did not see this as one of the major paint zoom problems. Some would even fill the paint reservoir halfway so that they can paint quicker, and with ease.  Even doing this, they still had no problems using the paint zoom device.

If you are to use the paint zoom on big areas like the wall on the interior of the house, then you could face some paint zoom problems. This paint sprayer is meant to paint only small to medium projects in your house and yard. Smaller jobs in the house would mean painting the chair, railings and other similar things, while the medium projects in the house are things such as cabinets, desk, walling in the kitchen, bathroom or living room, and of course tables and chairs.  We painted our bathroom and even the living room with no problems whatsoever.

To avoid encountering any paint zoom problems, professional builders, painters or contractors should avoid using this paint spray for this is not designed for jobs as big as construction jobs. A handyman or house owners will find this useful as this device is portable and designed for small painting jobs. My Fiance and I had no problems painting most of our downstairs walls using the sprayer.

For those that don’t want to read my entire rant above, here is a summary from my OWN experienced outlining the Paint Zoom Problems

The Spray Gun covers everything, even areas that don’t need painting.  This is not the fault of the unit, even paint rollers can make a mess sometimes.  Make sure you cover your work area neatly and cover/protect areas you’re not wanting to paint.  I found that by simply taping off walls and covering the floor like I would when painting traditionally with a roller and brush, the mess was minimal and I ended up shaving hours off of my painting jobs!

It’s too loud, and there was a-lot of mist in the air once we were done.  My lawnmover is loud too, but I still use it.  As for the mist, I found this is the case even with more premium and expensive paint sprayers.  I did not find this caused a problem, and the mist evaporated safely without leaving a mess.

The unit gets a bit hot, and my fiances hand got tired after painting for a while.  Take a quick break every 15 or 20 minutes, as for her hand being tired – she said her hand would have hurt much WORSE if she was using a paint roller for 3 times as long.  Personally, I did not experience a tired hand when using the paint zoom sprayer, but I also did take a quick break every 15 or 20 minutes to avoid such issues.

The Paint Zoom doesn’t hold a-lot of paint.  Honestly, it’s mean for small and medium jobs.  I found sometimes I was even taking OUT half the paint I had in it to make it lighter and easier to use.  If you’re using it to paint an entire house, then yeah it might be too small.  If you’re using it for small to medium jobs as suggested, it’s perfect and in some cases even holds a bit too MUCH paint.

The paint is too thick.  Simply add one cup of water per gallon of paint to resolve this issue.  The paint went on smoothly and effortlessly for me when doing this as instructed.

Paint Zoom Problems, or Oversights?

To avoid having issues on paint zoom problems, cover all the things that you don’t want to get paint on. This should be done especially by first time painters. If somebody IS having issues with this, it’s certainty no fault to the paint zoom.  Getting a little extra paint in other areas is normal if you’re not careful, even when using a brush or roller. Lastly, be sure to takea break even if the unit is light, as with continuous use, you will eventually tire yourself out.

With a little preparation and instruction, even your kids can help you with your small or medium painting jobs around the house!  Over all, we VERY much like the paint zoom sprayer, and these paint zoom problems don’t have to be problems at all if you pay attention to what you’re doing and don’t rush the job.
